This week comes with news of when we'll be open in our new store: November 11th! As of that day all classes will be taught from our new store at 2375 East 63rd Avenue. This week we had a visit from the movers and some of our big fixtures have left the building... to be set up in our new store! Our front counter has moved as well as our white sewing machine cabinet. For now our cutting counter has become our new front check out counter and we have a folding table as a cutting table. It may not be beautiful but it gets the job done!

Our inventory reduction sale is still going strong! New fabrics are still going on sale all the time. We've cleared out tons of bolts but we have lots of beautiful fabric that still needs a home!

In the new store, we have set up our front counter and lots of other fixtures. We have notions, patterns and books and fabric displays already. It's not as big as our current store so we are filling up the new space very quickly! Remember this just our temporary store, we're building our perfect and final store next year! We're getting so close to our move and we know some of these changes are challenging but we appreciate your business through it all!

The pictures below are of our current store with our new set up until the move is complete as well as pictures of the new store!

And we thank you, all of our wonderful customers, for your support and business as this move wouldn't be possible without you!
Happy Sewing!

We mentioned in our weekly e-mail Bernina has some awesome financing available this weekend. I'm sure most of our customers would say they love our store for our beautiful fabric. But we are so much more than a fabric store; we're a Bernina Dealer! And we wanted to share with you a few our favorite things about Bernina. Also don't miss our move update and pics below!

This Bernina video highlights most of the awesome things about Bernina so please a take a few minutes to hear what Bernina is all about!

My favorite sound bite from this is, "If a Bernina machine can be accurate to within a few thousandths of a millimeter, we're going to make it that way. We can't help it, we're Swiss" :) Enjoy!

I hope you love whatever machine you sew on but we sure do love our Berninas!
Thank you for listening to this information about Bernina machines.

Move Update

Maret is still keeping very busy at the new store arranging and rearranging our fixtures, fabric and notions. We've taken almost of all of the fabric we can fit over to the new location on E 63rd. We've got our class room space figured out AND we have our own bathroom! We're getting so excited about this new location and we're hoping you are too! If you have any wishes or suggestions for this new store or our final home we'd love to hear your comments on this blog! Enjoy the new pictures!!!

And we thank you, all of our wonderful customers, for your support and business as this move wouldn't be possible without you!
Happy Sewing

Our Move!

Maret, her mother Alrene, and granddaughter Alia have been busy at work moving our fabrics into our new store. This week we've brought over most our newest fabrics from our old store. So don't worry if your favorite brand new fabric is no longer at our University Center location! They've probably been moved to their new home.

Since Maret has been working so hard to get our store ready, we're finally ready to announce when we'll open our doors at our 2375 East 63rd Ave location: December 1st, 2013! Stop by our University Center location and make sure you leave with a postcard so you can get a special gift on our grand opening weekend.

Enjoy these fun pictures of Arlene and Alia!

And we thank you, all of our wonderful customers, for your support and business as this move wouldn't be possible without you!

Happy Sewing!

If you've been by our shop lately you might have noticed we are missing some of our shelves, well... actually most of our shelves, but even more fabric is on sale! Maret has gotten very excited about our new location so she's been busy! Busy moving things and pulling more beautiful fabrics to add to our inventory reduction sale. Our new temporary home at 2375 63rd Ave has begun receiving our shelves and fixtures as we prep for our big move. We've already figured out the layout and started moving some things in. Here are some pictures of new store so far!

We'll keep on updating you with pictures and news as we continue on our journey to this new temporary location and eventually to our new building!

Please see the previous blog posts for more information about our move and what's been going on at Seams Like Home this last year.

And we thank you, all of our wonderful customers, for your support and business as this move wouldn't be possible without you!

Happy Sewing!

Finally we've decided to reveal our big news online and you, our blog reader's, are first know! Seams Like Home is moving... not just once but twice! And the best part of it is, we are building Seams Like Home's forever home! The downside is our new store won't be ready until Summer 2014 and our lease is up in the University Center Mall in December. In the mean time we are going to be in a temporary location!

Our new and temporary retail space will be up and ready for business for all of you lovely quilters on December 1st at 2375 East 63rd Avenue. This is just south of the Dowling and Lake Otis intersection, just off of Lake Otis. We going to be in the previous of home of the World Wide Angler store. Here's a picture of the store front and a map of the location.

Our forever home hasn't even began construction but the land has been purchased and plans are finalized! The location of our new home is on the corner of 88th Ave and Toloff Street. We are going to be northwest corner of the intersection and we are neighbors with the Carrs on Abbott! Here's a picture of the exterior building design, a picture of the actual lot and map of its location.

We know moving twice isn't ideal and we beg you, our loyal customers, to bear with us through this next year. The final result will be a much better store for us and for you! We'll have weekly updates on the new building and our temporary location on here with lots of fun behind the scenes pictures. Start following our blog today if you don't already so you don't miss anything! We'll do our best to help you keep up with our changes and updates as we want the transition into our new stores to be a smooth and positive experience.

Thank you for being such wonderful and loyal customers as we couldn't do any of this without you!

So much has been happening at Seams Like Home over the last year which is why our blog has fallen to the wayside.  We’ve had store events, cruises, life changes and BIG changes for the business as well!

The special events we’ve had to prepare for, like a Caribbean cruise in February 2013 and an Alaskan cruise in June, were so much fun as we made friends with quilters and teachers from across the globe! If you ever have a desire to take a cruise, a quilting cruise is a great choice! Take a look at Quilt Seminars at Sea’s website if you’re interested!  http://www.quiltcruises.com/

While the cruises were super fun to go on, for those who couldn’t come with us, we brought home great deals! The cruises made it possible for us to sell gently used Bernina machines at huge discounts to our customers. The machines on the cruises are brand new machines used for less than 20 hours under our staffs’ watchful eyes. Then they fully serviced before going to new homes. So watch for “cruise specials” in the future!

Other fun news for the store has to do with babies and weddings! I, Sara, the store’s education manager had a baby on August 10th. I had a beautiful baby girl named Marina Eugina Carmen. She was born at 5:51am and was 7lb 1.8oz at birth. She’s now over 6 weeks old and growing and changing every day. She’ll be stopping by the store every once in awhile so maybe you’ll get a chance to see her!

Also one of Maret’s daughter’s, Angelyn, the sales manager for the store, got married this fall! On September 14th, at the Alyeska hotel in Girdwood, Angelyn married the love of her life, Cliff. The ceremony was beautiful and we were blessed with sunny weather for an outdoor ceremony by the pond. As per Angelyn and Cliff’s personalities, a wonderful party followed and family and friends stayed up way too late celebrating with the happy couple. Right now they are driving all over Alaska in an RV enjoying their honeymoon.

On to the super special news about the store itself! As you may have heard we have a major sale right now. LOTS of fabric, including Batiks, notions, books and miscellaneous items are discounted! As of right now, fabric is 30% off, 40% if you finish the bolt. Other items are 30% off and Maret has even decided to part with some of our antiques! If you’ve ever looked at our beautiful old treadle machines or antique cabinets and wanted to take them home, now’s your chance!
As for the reason WHY we are offering you such amazing deals, you need to come into the store to see what we are up to! Soon we’ll have more news posted here but you know you don’t want to miss our sale. So come on in, check out all the sale items and we’ll tell you our news!

We hope this lovely and sunny was filled with fun for you all. But fall is here, and we’re ready to crack down and sew, Sew, SEW! We hope you are too! We’re looking forward to seeing you in the store!

Class Sneak Preview

So, I know there are a lot of you out there anxiously awaiting the class release! It will be out officially on Wednesday, August 1st!

However, I thought that since you've all been waiting so patiently I would give you a little sneak preview...

The first is a super cute Intermediate Paper Piecing project in a class called "Keep on Paper Piecing", although I've nick named it "Franken-piecing". Angelyn has chosen such a cute project that shows you a variety of intermediate level paper piecing techniques.

Isn't he cute?!
Click on the picture to find out dates & more information.

The second is an Embellishment class called "Mixed Media". I've never seen such a unique project before. It combines a few techniques from Carol's other embellishment series and looks oh so fun!

What kinds of neat things can you find for your mixed media project?!

Click on the picture to find out dates & more information.

The third is an awesome Snow Vest taught by one of our staff, Debby! You may have taken her Snow Skirt class last session. This vest pairs nicely with a snow skirt if you made one last session.

Adding one of the beautiful trims we have in the store completes this vest nicely!

Come check out the samples hanging in the store, and don't forget to visit us during Sale Weekend to get 20% off your class fees and supplies!
